I attempt to fix a bouncing tachometer needle by cleaning and lubricating the tachometer cable on my Honda Nighthawk CB450SC motorcycle. The tach would bounce at idle and at speed. I used a tools and parts cleaning spray to clean the cable and sleeve. Then I used a silicone lubricant to lube the cable. After putting it back on, the bouncing was reduced.
